Bar Mitzvah

Today we are going to a Bar Mitzah for my cousin Jennifer's son, Riley. I can't help it, I keep thinking about the cute shirt that our friend Marissa bought for Maxie:

My non-Jewish nanny said I wouldn't believe it, other parents that she babysits for had already started planning the bat mitzvah of their daughter, who is twelve.  "I believe it", I said, "We had already started planning Maxie's Bar Mitzvah".   It's what we Jewish parents do. It was going to be in Israel.  We just hadn't decided if we would do it at the Western Wall or at Masada.

All of the Milestones Maxie won't have are hard to think about.  I am going to wait to start planning Mo's Bar Mitzvah.  Anyway, he might want a Star Wars theme or something.  Who knows?

Wow. What an amazingly cute pic of Maxie! All those milestones that our children won't have. Birthdays, Bar Mitzvahs...weddings are particularly hard for me....she will never be a bride.
BTW, I'm chatting with Susan from Susan's Sob Spot on fb and she asked about you...

Either of those plans would have been grand. I'm so sorry you don't get to enjoy watching Maxie grow up right now. It's so heartbreaking. What a beautiful, beautiful boy. What an unspeakable loss. I'm sorry, and I'm sad.
